Skyline

Practice Plans

If athletes want to get better faster, practices need structure: one clear focus, repeatable reps, and honest feedback.

Training Philosophy

No Shortcuts Skill Development

Skyline keeps it simple: master basics first, increase speed second, then transfer to game pressure with competitive finishes.

One Focus Per Block

Do not overload sessions. Build quality before adding complexity.

Quality Reps

Clean technique first, then progress toward game speed and decision-making.

Track Outcomes

Use measurable stats like settable passes, clean sets, and block touches.

Core Modules

Fundamentals We Train Every Week

Introduction

  • One focus per block: do not fix everything at once.
  • Quality reps first, then raise game tempo.
  • Transfer each skill into competitive finishes.
  • Coach cue: if athletes cannot do five clean reps in a row, simplify before scaling up.

Fundamentals of Passing

  • Athletic base: balanced, knees soft, chest forward, eyes up.
  • Move first with small fast steps and beat the ball to the spot.
  • Quiet platform: build angle with body, not arm swing.
  • Practice goal: track settable passes out of 10.

Fundamentals of Blocking

  • Read sequence: pass to setter shoulders to hitter arm path.
  • Footwork: shuffle short distances, crossover for range.
  • Jump vertical and press hands over the net to seal space.
  • Coach cue: forward drift usually means early jump timing.

Fundamentals of Hitting

  • Approach rhythm: controlled early steps and explosive final two.
  • Keep spacing with the ball slightly in front of the hitting shoulder.
  • High contact with wrist snap through the ball.
  • Practice goal: hit chosen target six out of ten before adding power.

Fundamentals of Setting

  • Get early to the ball and square to target.
  • Create relaxed hand window and contact with fingertips.
  • Drive from legs and finish toward hitter target.
  • Coach cue: excessive spin usually means uneven finger contact.
